Soft Reverse Lockout Bias Spring Tremec T56 TR6060 Camaro Challenger GT500 Viper

*** NOT INTENDED FOR CARS WITH STOCK SHIFTERS! This is only for use with aftermarket shifters where the effort to enter reverse is excessive.*** This softer spring makes it much easier to enter reverse!

Softer bias spring for the reverse lockout mechanism found on T-56 & TR-6060 manual transmissions as in the following applications:

  • 2004-2015 Cadillac CTS-V
  • 2016-2019 Cadillac ATS-V
  • 2022+ Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing
  • 2022+ Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
  • 1993-2024 Camaro (V8)
  • 2005-2006 Chevy SSR truck
  • 2015-2017 Chevrolet SS
  • 1993-2002 Pontiac Firebird (V8)
  • 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO
  • 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
  • 1992-2017 Dodge Viper
  • 2004-2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10
  • 2009-2023 Dodge Challenger (V8)

  • 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra
  • 2007-2014 Mustang Shelby GT500
  • 2004-2016 Ford Falcon & FPV (Australian)
  • Holden Commodore VR-VZ (Australian)
  • Holden Monaro V2 & VZ (Australian)
  • Magnum & XL Tremec aftermarket transmissions
    • *** This does NOT eliminate the need to activate the solenoid; you are still expected to power the solenoid to enter reverse... ***

  • Includes one spring & instructions - all other OE parts are reused
    • Replaces the large spring found in GM # 19180052, Mopar # 68029168AA, Ford # AR3Z-7K187-A
  • Requires lifting car off ground & working in a tight space with basic hand tools. Mechanism disassembly requires a small vise and snap ring pliers

Background info: The reverse lockout mechanism is composed of a bias spring on a piston, and a solenoid (see diagram) - in a small bracket attached to the transmission tailhousing by one bolt, well above the fluid level. When vehicle speed is below ~15 mph the solenoid engages to allow access to reverse; that function is not altered by this modification. The bias spring's purpose is during low speed operation; it increases the effort to enter the reverse gate beyond that of the other gates, so the operator has to make a conscious effort to enter reverse.  The OE bias spring is engineered to work in conjunction with the OE shifter; the reduced leverage & stronger centering springs of an aftermarket shifter can effectively double the effort it takes to enter reverse and make it unbearable.  The softer spring being sold here reduces this force by 50%, to give you about the same effort level as the OEM intended.  It's a simple mod that can drastically enhance your driving experience.

It is important to understand the reverse lockout spring force can only be evaluated with the vehicle turned "on" (ie. when solenoid is active).  When the vehicle is turned "off", the solenoid in disengaged state creates a larger barrier that overrules this spring function.

Also consider the "anti-venom mod" spacers that reduce fore/aft (T56) or side-to-side (TR6060) effort - see separate listing
