How to quiet a noisy line lock / roll control switch
*** This procedure applies to the switches sold by us, Hurst, Granatelli, and others that look like pic below. Not everyone needs this mod; it depends on how much your shifter vibrates and how tight you want the switch. In cases where the button has play and the lever vibrates, the button rattles and makes noise; this noise can be greatly reduced with a small shim made out of a cable tie. Due to production variations, this mod may not work on all switches, it's for switches with a fair amount of play in the button. Make sure the switch still turns off when buttons is released after shim is installed! ***
- Remove screw from top end of switch
- Using a small flat blade screwdriver, carefully separate rear cover at wire entrance (watch for alignment pins) and remove rear cover
- Push hard on red button while holding black housing, until switch circuit board pops out from rear then remove red button, switch board, and wiring
- Obtain a 0.18-0.19" wide / 50 lb cable tie. Cut off tapered start of tie back to serrations (~ first inch) and discard. Cut a 3/16" long piece (about square)
- Put a small dot of silicone RTV onto inside of black housing just above button opening at screw end. Place cable tie piece onto glue- serrated side toward glue - flush with edge of button opening. Wipe off any excess glue
- Let dry overnight before reassembly. Tapered end of red button goes toward wiring entrance. Make sure switch board snaps flush into housing before replacing rear cover
- Test switch for functionality and make sure continuity is interrupted when button is released. If switch is stuck "on" even when button is released, shim is too thick or other error has occurred; resolve before use
