  • Chart reflects original configurations; many swaps have occurred...
    • IF original, refer to TR / Trans code on VIN label (driver's door jamb): TK = X or 5, FM = D, M5R1 = M or J
      • If NOT original - study trans case, oil pan, and ID tag

Physical ID:

  • M5R1 has solid main case with integral bellhousing (no oil pan); TK & FM units have separate bellhousings + bolt-on oil pans
    • M5R1 has a removable shifter stick that attaches to a short stub with a 3-bolt cover. For more M5OD info, see here
  • TK's have a finned cast aluminum oil pan w/ 14 bolts and drain plug at corner
    • Plastic shifter base (usually yellow) w/ rectangular bolt pattern
      • Diesel TK's have NO oil pan, and aluminum shifter base of different bolt pattern - sample wanted
        • Aerostar TK5 (1986-1987) uses a remote offset linkage, different base - see Aerostar page
  • FM's have a stamped steel oil pan w/ 12 bolts and drain plug at center. 
    • FM145 has a black plastic shifter base w/ trapezoidal bolt pattern
    • FM132 & FM146 have a metal shifter flange (no plastic housing) with a square 4-bolt pattern
